Opera Mini on the Sciphone i68+

One of the best apps we can add to our phone is the Opera Mini.

This portable web browser has many advantages compared to the one included with the phone and one of the best features is this. It optimize the web pages making them smaller and faster to load and it even can be used to load complex pages through WAP or use ports blocked by our provider.

They are two versions at the moment, the 3.1 and 4.2
Even many people says the 3.1 is better we should try them both and decide for ourselves.

I left both links to download and try

Opera mini 3.1

Opera mini 4.2

For instructions to install Java apps see the previous post.

Many people had problems connecting with opera mini. It just get network error.

To fix it try changing from HTTP to WAP...

These are the steps:

Service - WAP - Settings - Edit Profile - SIM1 - OK - Edit Profile

and in the "Connection Type" change from HTTP to WAP
Check the IP address and make sure "Security" its ON

Besides you need to go to Service - Data account - GPRS - Edit
and change "Auth. type" to "Secure"

With this settings Opera Mini 3 worked well in my phone and i even could check gmail from gmail.com

  1. Great article! .. I am just wondering how to set an IP. I've set everything according to my provider (Vodafone), except for the IP as I couldn't find it in i68+. Then when I want to go to the Web, the phone displays an error message: Invalid gateway IP. Can you help, please?

  4. I'm having an issue editing text fields with opera mini on my i68+. How do you confirm that you're done editing text without an OK button on the phone? I have to terminate the app everytime I click on a text field because I cannot get back to the page from which I opened the text editor. No one else has this problem??

  12. on the opera mini site it says you can turn it to landscape view by pressing a certain key combo, or in the settings, but as there's no keyboard you can use in opera, and i can't see anything in the settings, this doesn't seem possible. does anyone know a way around this?

  18. re Michael, and Akuma: on SCIphone I9+++ Touch phone, Opera Mini 4.2:

Tap on screen in Opera to enter "www."
this brings up the white "enter Address" screen.

Tap screen to enter "edit Mode"
    enter Web address,
    tap "options"
    tap "done"
this takes you back to the "enter Address" screen.
tap "Options" this will bring up the "options" window half blacked out, with the word "Clear" on it.
Tap the screen anywhere in the white area, and "OK" will appear, select "OK", and the address is entered in the Web window.

as far as I can make out, this works on all edit windows.
